Gevrey Chambertin, Les Cazetiers, 1er Cru, 2019
This plays hard to get at first but with a little air reveals chalky sweet dark fruit, fresh hedgerow berries and minerals. A yin yang of sun-ripened but crisp, pristine focused fruit. Great class and purpose. A first rate Gevrey Premier Cru vineyard high up on the slope next door to Clos St Jacques. whilst there is a similar aromatic quality to the wines of its neighbour the taste profile is very different, with suaver, rounder fruit coming from the white clay soils found here in this limestone-influenced parcel in the upper part of the vineyard.
critic reviews
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru, which apparently suffered a lot of millerandage, shows a little reduction on the nose, but it clearly possesses fine mineralité underneath with flinty/granitic aromas percolating through. The palate is very well balanced with succulent ripe tannins, fleshy and very elegant with black pepper towards the finish. Excellent.
