Gevrey Chambertin, Les Cazetiers, 1er Cru, 2020
As ever one of the more svelte, rounder and nobler Gevreys. There is a classy touch to the tannins, which gently bind the beautifully extended, refined flavours together – floral dark berries, a hint of raspberry and cherry, a touch of cocoa, too. This has great allure and sophistication. A first rate Gevrey Premier Cru vineyard high up on the slope next door to Clos St Jacques. Whilst there is a similar aromatic quality to the wines of its neighbour the taste profile is very different, with suaver, rounder fruit coming from the white clay soils found here in this limestone-influenced parcel in the upper part of the vineyard.
critic reviews
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet. This is some clever use of whole bunches. Black pepper mixes with red berry fruit and briar. There's fine delineation, and it becomes more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. This is a structured Cazetiers, linear in style, conservative perhaps, but there is a class here, and I appreciate its aloofness. Maybe a little dry on the finish? It just needs to loosen its tie, but there's real class here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
