A live wire Grand Cru, bursting with juicy red cherry, raspberry and tayberry fruit. Notes of crushed rocks and minerals ripple through the crystal clear fruit. Shimmering with bright flavours, but controlled and graceful too. Breathtaking.

The 2017 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was the one wine in this flight to show a little reduction and a touch of oak; it’s just a question of time. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, slightly savory red fruit. I am not sure about the oak integration here – it seems to be singing from a different hymn sheet. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
