Château de Meursault, Meursault, Les Charmes, Dessus, 1er Cru, 2014

From 2 specific parcels high up in the Charmes vineyard, just below Clos des Perrieres and abutting the vines of Dominque Lafon this represents a clear step up from the straight Charmes with an electric, almost saline element bringing vigour to the rich and layered fruit. A wine that manages to be simultaneously 'solaire' and saline, with a touch of butter and crisp lemon zest and white flower notes. Very smart indeed.

(35% new oak): Bright pale yellow. Inviting perfume of yellow peach, ripe lemon, hazelnut and spicy oak. Plump, sweet, tactile and concentrated; richer and smoother than the Perrières but without that wine's energy. No shortage of acidity here but currently showing more yellow fruits and spicy oak than underlying stoniness. This piques the taste buds on the finish, displaying emerging mineral grip. These vines are located just below the estate's Meursault Perrières.
