Gevrey-Chambertin, Lavaux St Jacques, 1er Cru, 2015
Open, alluring and beautifully fragrant fruit. Fine floral notes of violet married to dark sweet fruit, rose, and sweet spice characteristics. A heady mix. The texture is suave, the finish, long cool and composed. Gevrey of top class pedigree. A fabulous Gevrey vineyard high up the slope next to Clos St.-Jacques. Being due south-facing yet benefitting from the cooling breezes from the Combe, the terroir is cool yet sun-blanched. Aged in 50% new oak, 30% whole bunch fermentation.
critic reviews
The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry, a little more floral than other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy raspberry, tart red cherry, blood orange and touches of allspice. There's just a little hardness on the finish that suggests the 2015 needs more time. Excellent.
