Gevrey Charmbertin, En Champs, 2011
A different beast to the Vieilles Vignes, as ripe as this is there is a tremendously airy, high-toned freshness, wonderful flavours of red berry, cherry and cherry stone. As refined and vital as Gevrey gets. Beautiful. A fine old vines (60-year-old) ‘lieu-dit’ situated just underneath the Champeaux 1er Cru on a gentle slope, one of the very best terroirs for Gevrey villages.
critic reviews
(60% new oak; from cold soil under Cazetiers with a real combe influence, noted Mortet; always high in grape sugars but with good acid retention): Bright medium red. Musky redcurrant, a whiff of violet and a slightly grilled note on the nose. Dense, sweet, classic Gevrey with lovely vinosity and lift; conveys a strong impression of chewy, salty extract. Finishes classically dry, with impressive rising length and suave tannins. Should make an outstanding village wine.
