Pouilly Fuisse, Les Grands Climats, 2023
A classic Domaine de la Chapelle Cuvee of shapely finesse and fine clarity. White fleshed fruits here dance with a salty minerality and a sense of easy charm and elegance. Aged half in tank and half in barrique, of which just 25% is new. From 2023 the VV cuvee has been absorbed into Grands Climats, making for a bigger palate of expression from which to create this cuvee. Blended from numerous parcels, primarily limestone, with some marne and clay.
critic reviews
The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Grands Climats comes from various plots, 80% in Pouilly and the rest from Solutré, half raised in barrel and half in vat, a little more of the latter this year to preserve freshness. There is fine control and focus on the nose, understated at first but opening with aeration, a little flinty-smoky in style with a subtle reduction. The palate is underpinned with a fine line of acidity, lightly spiced with hints of white pepper and fennel. Lively and animated on the finish, this is a delicious and quite complex Pouilly-Fuissé.
