Corton Clos du Roi, Grand Cru, 2019
Broad, expansive and smooth without being too weighty or over the top. There is a beautifully silky touch to the tannins and precision to the fruit. Svelte, warming and round fruit notes of cherry, damson and kirsch gradually envelop the palate - with the powerful structure lying in the background, giving the fruit centre stage. Classy but structured Corton that boasts beautiful, clear fruit. Fermented with two thirds whole bunches and aged in 50% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2019 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi is one of the high points of the range. Revealing aromas of sweet berry fruit, rose petals, orange rind and spices and framed by a discreet patina of classy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, with a rich and vibrant core of fruit, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.
The 2019 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a clean, precise bouquet of red cherry and wild strawberry aromas, nicely focused, with pressed iris petals emerging with time. The palate is very well balanced, the two-thirds whole cluster well integrated, with a persistent and very elegant finish. This is how to make a Clos du Roi.
