    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Domaine de Montille, Pommard, Les Rugiens, 1er Cru, 2005

From the Bas Rugiens, the best part, where the soils are iron rich and red in colour, the name Rugiens coming from this distinct 'Rouge' colour. This is of Grand Cru quality, truly majestic with so much force and energy, showing a very intense and concentrated core garlanded by sweet ripe berry fruits. Pommard does not come more stylish.

Good deep red. Penetrating aromas of dark raspberry, violet and spices. Suave and rich, with a mineral pungency giving the mid-palate a perfumed character. Builds slowly toward the back, finishing with substantial broad tannins and lovely lingering spicy persistence. Wonderfully rich without coming off as heavy, in the style of this premier cru. But this very young wine is a bit inexpressive and tannic today and will require at least five or six years of patience.
