Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2016
Another vineyard whose crop was reduced by half thanks to frost. Seriously velvety and voluptuous, strong but noble tannins with a distinct salty intensity not seen in this cuvée before. Broad-shouldered but suave dark berry fruit mixed with a savoury undergrowth element and background, perfumed notes of fruit blossom. A blend of three parcels within the Clos de Vougeot, one from the bottom part of the vineyard, one from the middle on the Vosne side and one higher up near to the Château.
critic reviews
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers smudged red fruit on the nose, rather flat compared to its peers and missing tension. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, but it needs more delineation and tension towards the austere finish. There is a pleasant rondeur. I believe that there are better examples of Clos de Vougeot from other producers and furthermore, Domaine Lamarche themselves produced better 2016s. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
