Nuits-Saint-Georges, 2016
This year the Nuits Villages cuvée contains the 1er Crus Chaignots and Chenes Carteaux, declassifed so that a Nuits Villages cuvée would be possible after all. This is normally from eight plots across the Nuits commune with the south side of Nuits having the most influence on the blend, which is where the frost hit most devastatingly and why production is so small. Fresh, vigorous berry fruit. Crunchy and bright flavours of tayberry, loganberry and plum. Quite some density and structure but lovely fruit definition and suave texture.
critic reviews
(includes the estate's premier crus Les Chaignots and Les Chènes Carteaux in 2016 as these two lots were too tiny to vinify on their own): Bright dark red. Inviting aromas of red and black cherry, minerals and earth. At once ripe and cool in the mouth, with slightly medicinal blueberry, blackberry and licorice flavors complemented by menthol and mint nuances. A juicy, chewy, nicely ripe village wine, no doubt given more volume by the inclusion of the premier cru fruit. Finishes with firm, slightly dusty tannins and noteworthy persistence.
