Nuits St Georges, Les St Georges, 1er Cru, 2013
Ripe, rich velvety flavours, the fruit is much brighter and redder than the darker Vaucrains. This is fine, intense and explosive with high-toned red fruit floral notes and touches of kirsch on the long expansive finish. The great vineyard of Nuits, many people believe it should be elevated to Grand Cru status.
critic reviews
The 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru is, to quote Antoine Gouges, an "outside vintage.” At seven years old, it has an open bouquet of mulberry, undergrowth and wilted rose petal aromas, a little ferrous in style. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, rustic in style and just missing some depth and grip on the finish. Slightly bitter, perhaps. I want to like this more than I actually do, and it has a hard job following the splendid nascent 2019.
