Chambolle Musigny, La Combe d'Orveaux, 2023
Much paler and redder-fruited tonally than the Vosne village, with sweet red-cherry fruit and raspberry coulis. A touch of Etienne’s bon bons here. On the palate this is open and caressing with very sleek tannins and a gentle, translucent feel to it. Very fine-boned at heart with a salty finish that gives resonance. A high-up vineyard influenced by the cooling effects of the Combe d'Orveaux.
critic reviews
The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau is very perfumed and floral on the nose, featuring red berry fruit, touches of cola and brown spices. It is harmonious with beautifully integrated oak. This has more joie-de-vivre than an early Spice Girls' number-one hit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, slightly candied entry, orange pith infusing the red fruit and hints of Szechuan peppers. It's quite lithe and focused toward the finish. I can imagine this drinking young, but it has the balance and substance to reward cellaring. This is excellent.
