Mazoyères Chambertin, Grand Cru, Vieilles Vignes, 2020
A totally different kettle of fish to neighbouring Charmes, this is floral, open, juicy and expansive. Broad, mouth filling plum and bramble fruit with scents of rose. This has scale and power without overwhelming the palate; full but soft and sensual. A parcel of 60 year old vines from the prime haut part of the Mazoyeres vineyard opposite Combottes and Latricières-Chambertin, close to Christophe's Charmes but so different in profile with much deeper soils, giving bigger richer wines.
critic reviews
The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru lacks a little delineation on the nose, showing raspberry and crushed strawberry, bergamot and light tea leaf scents. It's just a little smudged and Grenache-like. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lower acidity, and slightly drier in style. It is missing some finesse on the finish. This is another perplexing showing from the Domaine that showed so well from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
