Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Grand Cru, 2023
Handsome nose - it’s neither red nor black, sweet nor savoury. Briary and finely pitched with a fine firm core of tannin at heart. Poised, if a little closed, but also confident with a savoury mineral finish and salty, red berry notes on the finish. Clearly extremely good, but unsurprisingly, needing some time to play all its cards. From a one-and-a-half-hectare parcel of almost 70-year-old vines. Fermented with 15% whole bunches. Aged in 80% new oak barrels.
critic reviews
The 2023 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet with vivacious brambly red fruit. It is very refined and poised with great transparency, yet there is power here (unusual in this vintage). A little edgier and more tensile than the Clos de Vougeot, the palate is medium-bodied with finely spun tannins and a sapid finish. Long and tender, this is deeply impressive.
