Monthélie, Sur la Velle, 1er Cru, 2015
More shoulders and meat than the Clos de Chêne which it carries incredibly well, still offering great finesse. Wonderful ripe cherry and griotte flavours enrobe the palate, notes of bramble and damson too, overlaying deep-pitched notes of earth, truffle and undergrowth, finishing back on fruit and exquisite aromatics. Clear, characterful and moreish. A parcel of old vines directly below Eric’s Clos du Chêne vineyard and next to Volnay Santenots. Aged in a mixture of used oak foudres and smaller fruits.
critic reviews
The 2015 Monthélie Sur La Velle 1er Cru is better than the 2013 and 2014: redcurrant and raspberry on the nose that has a pastille-like purity. The palate is ripe on the entry with sweet red cherries, a fine line of acidity with cranberry and raspberry on the gutsy, sappy finish. Enjoy this now and over the next 4 to 5 years.
