Puligny Montrachet, Les Perrières, 1er Cru

Puligny Montrachet, Les Perrières, 1er Cru, 2020

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

More extended and tauter than the more compact Referts. Elegant but gripping with its crushed stone and citrus notes, haloed by a bright glow of Mirabelle fruit. Long nervy and intense, there is a lot of dry extract in this wine, but all is calm and controlled here. Charming and poised with an elegant austerity giving this bite. A classic. From a well-drained vineyard situated next to Referts, but very different in style, with a similar clay content but more compact and scattered with small rocky stones. The resulting wines are invariably more mineral than Referts.

critic reviews

95/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a more "aloof" bouquet. It's Zen-like at first, with apple blossom and light, wet pavement scents. However, I would have liked more intensity. The palate is nicely balanced with deftly integrated oak. A silver bead of acidity keeps this Puligny on its tiptoes, fresh and saline so that the saliva starts to run with the prospect of the next sip. This has shifted up through the gears since I last tasted it, but give it a couple of years to subsume the new oak. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrieres opens in the glass with notes of lemon oil, freshly baked bread, pastry cream, nutmeg and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and a penetrating, mineral finish, it's a beautiful, classically proportioned white Burgundy.
