Corton Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2023
Very fine oak integration here, with a natural sense of power and breadth that plays out more horizontally than the Pulignys tasted just before. Nutty citrus notes, with that cool mineral dimension that Marne often brings, and plenty of salt on the finish. Much more to come here. This is from a small parcel of 0.29ha right in the heart of "Le Charlemagne" that was planted in 1940, facing south-west. The soils here are marney limestone, shallow and with a stony top soil.
critic reviews
The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the top of the hill in Charlemagne. It has a delightful bouquet with lemon verbena and crushed stone scents, fine delineation and mineralité. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's simple but elegant in style with a pretty, orange rind-tinged finish. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.
