Morey St Denis, Clos de la Bussière, 1er Cru, 2022
Very Bussière in that this marks a real contrast to the Chambolle, with darker fruit and some polished earth notes, but there’s also an elegance and flow to it. There’s suave seduction here. Sumptuous and caressing; one of the most refined in recent years. Plenty of old vines here from ‘55, ’65 and ‘67 and then a parcel planted between ’84 and ‘94.
critic reviews
The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussiere is, along with Les Cras, one of the more overtly ripe wines in the range this year, delivering notions of red berries, spiced plums, petals and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's framed by powdery tannins, concluding with a discreetly sun-kissed finish. Roumier was always hesitant to include whole bunches in this cuvee, the most inherently structured of the range, but he has dared to do so since 2018 and likes the results.
The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru, blended with 60% whole bunches, has a precise, detailed bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, and discrete oyster shell scents percolating through with time. The medium-bodied palate has firm tannins, slightly tarry black fruit, and gentle grip with a nicely structured, black pepper and clove-tinged finish. A very capable Morey Saint-Denis here that will age with style.
