Beaune, Clos des Mouches, Rouge, 1er Cru, 2021
A raspberry and red cherry scented nose with a touch of wild spice. Some wood gloss here but it's well integrated. A nicely weighted Clos des Mouches that is open and charming with autumn raspberry notes and a refined structure. Good finish too. Drouhin’s flagship vineyard, half of which is planted Chardonnay and half to Pinot Noir. Situated mid-slope with a fine east and south-east exposure, producing intense, spicy, round wines. Ageing is for 15 months in 25% new oak barrels.
critic reviews
The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is one of my picks from Drouhin this year. Wonderful, vivacious red fruit leap from the glass, hints of sous-bois and dried rose petal. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine mineralité, demonstrating more complexity than the preceding Beaune Cras with more grip on the finish. Superb.
