La Grande Rue, Grand Cru, 2020
An extraordinary mix of driven, sinewy power and floating grace and sophistication. Reticent to begin with, this drip feeds you gradually culminating into crisp, mineral-flecked alpine berry fruit, with background echoes of fresh herb, plum and cherry stone. Totally captivating. This has huge potential. La Grande Rue is an exceptional vineyard that sits next to La Tache and was granted the honour of Grand Cru status in 1992.
critic reviews
The 2020 La Grande Rue is similar to the bottle tasted at the Grands Jours: ample red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, fine mineralité, quite "airy" considering the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine depth, quite strict on the finish where one finds a pinch of sour cherry and brown spices. Just needs a little more sustain on the aftertaste. Fine.
