Chassagne Montrachet, Rouge, Clos St Jean, 1er Cru, 2020
A unique and highly seductive Chassagne, more akin to a blend of Chambolle and Vosne than anything else. Glorious, scented ripe red fruit and flowers on the nose, preceding the suavest and silkiest of palates. Spicy red cherry, griotte and damson characteristics caress the palate, finishing on a warming touch of sweet spice. Mostly fermented with whole berries (three quarters). A vineyard with a great reputation for making red wine, this stunning Clos has poorer soils than many of the other, more clay dominated vineyards in Chassagne such as Morgeot and results in wines of greater finesse.
critic reviews
The 2020 Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru (Rouge) has a slightly muted bouquet at the moment. Sultry. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening, quite sweet and candid, though it is missing a little tension and grip on the finish.
