Prunier Bonheur
Monthélie, Rouge, 2023
justerini & brooks tasting note
A touch backward on the nose but that’s no bad thing at this early stage, while on the palate it’s all finesse and lifted red fruited delicacy. Pretty, very pretty, with salty, hedgerow, red fruits and rosehips. In many respects, this bears the hallmarks of a baby Volnay. From a selection of parcels on clay limestone soils, averaging 45-year-old vines, fermented with 10-15% whole bunch.

The 2023 Monthélie Rouge, which was taken from tank, offers dark berry, iodine and light iris flower scents on the nose. Simple, but effective. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a little sinew towards the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.
