Vosne Romanée, En Orveaux, 1er Cru, 2009
A first rate but lesser-known Vosne vineyard of 56 years old that sits in the Combe d’ Orveaux on the Chambolle side of the appellation, facing east north east. It is a cool terroir that produces wines of elegance and tension. The 2009 is absolutely stunning, up there with the very best Premiers Crus of Vosne. Excellent, tight, linear cherry and berry fruits mixed with flecks of mineral, really intense and crisp whilst showing tell-tale Vosne silkiness. Glorious.
critic reviews
Good deep red. Wild berries, black cherry, menthol and stone on the expressive nose. Juicy, spicy and aromatic on the palate, but also with the creaminess of the vintage. Very ripe but nicely structured wine with lovely lingering sweetness. Cathiard notes that this cuvee has shown more volume in the last three or four vintages and that he's now working these 56-year-old vines with a horse (along with Reignots and Romanee-Saint-Vivant), as it's difficult to get a tractor in.
