RD, Extra Brut, 2007
Rather a beautiful nose combining complexity and delicacy as fine citrus and white flower notes meets aromatic spices like cardamon seed, nutmeg, saffron and ginger. Freshness pervades this and fine chalk notes lead the palate, before ripe pineapple, grapefruit, and blood orange notes explode across the palate. This has a sense of elegance and detail married to wonderfully ripe flavours and a precise but unobtrusive background mousse. It is both compelling on release and destined to drink well over the next decade plus. We’re big fans. Disgorged with 3 grams per litre, this is the 10th July 2020 disgorgement, tasted on 08/03/21. A blend of 66% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay, from just 13 villages, versus 20 in a normal year. Verzenay Pinot Noir dominates, making up 29% of the final blend, and Cramant taking centre stage for the Chardonnay proportion of the blend.
