Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Egly Ouriet, Grand Cru, Brut Rosé, NV

Based on the 2018 vintage, Egly's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru bursts with aromas of peaches, red berries and orange zest mingled with hints of praline and freshly baked bread. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit that's girdled by racy acids and animated by a pillowy mousse, this bright, penetrating Champagne is already showing well.”93/100, William Kelley, robertparker.com

Very pale coral, the Grand Cru Rose NV is a barrel fermented rosé d’assemblage based on the 2017 vintage and composed of 70% Pinot Noir of which 5% is still, and 30% Chardonnay. Redolent of ripe stone fruit, red currant, yuzu peel, honey and a faint minty note, the medium-bodied palate is hints of apricot, citrus oil and toast with softened acidity and a bitter tannic note on the finish. Disgorged July 2023, it is an Extra Brut style finished with two grams per liter dosage. Textural impressions should bear in mind that the bottle tasted at the winery was not freshly opened.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is distinguished, among other things, by the five years it spent on its lees, which is quite long for Rosé Champagne. Bright and beautifully sculpted, the Rosé sizzles with tension and yet it also possesses a sense of inner suaveness that is impossible to miss. This is such a classy wine. Disgorged: July, 2020.

A class act. Top-drawer champagnes with a real cult following. These guys are old hands, one of the original grower champagne producers before anybody even talked about “grower champagnes”. The style is authentic above all, with minimal filtration, and shows off the outstanding terroirs they have in Ambonnay. They are iconoclastic, the most distinctive characteristic of which is their use of extended lees contact and barrel fermentation. The grapes are harvested ripe and dosage is low. These factors really brings out the richness of their Pinot Noirs, a luxury which they are afforded by the natural minerality and acidity they get from their terrific sites. These are outstanding champagnes and not to be missed.
