Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Louis Roederer, Brut, Rosé, Gift Pack, 2008

A blend of 66% Pinot Noir 34% chardonnay with 20% barrel fermentation. The Pinot Noir comes from Cumieres and the Chardonnay from the Cotes des Blanc. A striking style of rose, the grapes are pressed slowly and pick up a little colour in the process, the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are then fermented together, there is no red wine added here! Lovely pale peach salmon pink colour, wonderfully perky crisp, peach and small red berry fruit flavours. Very fine, floral and crisp, refreshing, poised and beautifully light in its feet.

Since this Sceptered Isle is amidst and unprecedented hot summer, the 2008 Brut Rosé from Louis Roederer goes down as an absolute treat. Frankly, it is one of the best rosé Champagnes out there. Pale salmon in colour, it sports a glorious bouquet of light red cherry and citrus fruit, quite steely at first but then developing with very subtle creamy notes. The palate is just beautifully balanced with perfectly judged acidity and a precise, pretty, mineral-tinged finish with hints of nectarine and strawberry. Everything in this 2008 is so detailed and elegant that it begs the question: why pay more for a grander label?

Louis Roederer

Louis Roederer

When he inherited the Champagne House in 1833, the aesthete and entrepreneur Louis Roederer took a visionary approach to enriching his vines, aiming to master every stage of the wine’s creation. He forged the wine’s unique style, character, and taste. In the mid-nineteenth century, Louis Roederer acquired some of Champagne’s grand cru vineyards—an approach that contrasted sharply with contemporary practices. While other Houses bought their grapes, Louis Roederer nurtured his vineyards, familiarized himself with the specific characteristics of each parcel, and methodically acquired the finest land. Louis Roederer’s guiding principle was that all great wine depends on the quality of the soil, a passion for tradition, and an astute vision of the future; the fame and reputation of the House of Louis Roederer was firmly established.
