Le Mesnil, Grand Cru, 2008
Gosh what a really grown up nose, all stones, a shower of chalky austerity with tightly packed citrus below. Detailed and precise. On the palate the salinity is the dominant feature, salty stones, fresh baguette, fine salted butter on ice – this has a little more elegance than the Vertus, more sophistication as it delivers Mesnil mineral austerity with a depth and concentration that implies patience will be rewarded. Dry, savoury and complex through the finish, this has layers of intrigue and great volume and drive. Powerful, but lightly handled, with a very long finish. Serious Champagne by any measure. Disgorged May 27th 2020 with 3.5 grams of dosage. Certified Organic, the grapes for this cuvee come from five of Pascal’s best parcels in Mesnil sur Oger. Vinified in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts.
