Sarah Mayo, The Wine Independent
The Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2016 is a 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay where each variety and village parcel is vinified separately before the final blend is assembled. It is aged between five and six years on fine lees, hand riddled prior to disgorgement and finished with an eight gram per liter dosage. A rich golden color, the nose is very concentrated with rich, expressive notes of apple and rhubarb pie, lemon cream and honey. The medium-bodied palate has vibrant and supple acid supporting ripe forest fruit, toast, and acacia honey flavors. It finishes rich and long. The bottle tasted was disgorged in February, 2023.

Pol Roger

Justerini & Brooks has long been a great supporter of Pol Roger. Going back to the 19th Century records show that we bought a handsome parcel of the 1874, a great vintage that put Pol Roger on the map. The most fascinating episode in their history, though, was in 1914 when Epernay was invaded on the 4th September. The occupation did not last long, however, and as the allies pushed back, Maurice Pol Roger was allowed just enough time to coordinate the harvest, on the 21st September. It was a challenge gathering a picking team but he succeeded and as a result Pol Roger was one of the very few Champagnes made that year.
