Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Domaine Charles Joguet, Chinon, Clos de La Dioterie, 2009

With its easterly exposure Dioterie is always the last vineyard to be harvested, the winemaking is the same as for Chêne Vert: vatting in large wooden casks, malolactic fermentation sur lie and ageing in oak barriques for 12-15 months. Always the most muscular and tannic of the Joguet cuvées, the 2009 is enormously powerful but with superbly fine-grained tannins, floral notes of fruit blossom, ripe explosive flavours of plum, strawberry, bramble and cherry, with an underlying touch of earthiness. As sumptuous and mouth filling as this is straightaway, there are many layers of flavour to this wine that will unravel further with bottle age.

Domaine Charles Joguet

Domaine Charles Joguet

2006 is the first full vintage at this Domaine under the total control of young up and coming winemaker François-Xavier Barc following the retirement of Alain Delauney. What a glorious debut, 2006 was a below average production of 32 hl hectare as a result of a severe green harvesting and triage, the wines are simply stunning. The complexity and harmony of their single vineyard Clos, planted on tuf limestone, are unsurpassed in the appellation. Each of the Clos spend up to a year in two to five-year-old barriques, with a higher proportion of newer wood for the more concentrated Clos de La Dioterie and Clos du Chéne Vert. A domaine to watch very closely.
