product details
Justerini & Brooks, Pomerol, NV
This opens with a gently scented bouquet of fresh flowers, crisp hedgerow fruit and garrigue. The palate is silky smooth with layers of damsons, cassis, sweet red berries and blood orange, cosseted by seductive tannins, with a bright, refreshing acidity and a moreish saline finish. Absolutely delicious!
Château Grand Village, Rouge, Bordeaux Supérieur, 2019
Made by the team at Château Lafleur, and increasingly using the same genetics, the Grand Village 2019 attains a level of sophistication well above its lowly appellation. Initially gently perfumed with notes of hedgerow fruit, herbs, wildflowers, bergamot and a touch of graphite. The palate is glorious, with waves of sumptuous, pure griotte and leafy cassis encased in polished tannins laced with pure dark berries, spices and fine salts.
Côtes du Rhône, Moncoeur, Jean-Louis Chave Selection, 2022
A classified Cotes du Rhone but hailing from a spread of good appellations such as Cairanne, Rasteau and Vinsobres, the 2022 offers crunchy red fruits with plum stones and a pleasant, glowing Mediterranean quality. Finishes on snap and power, offering a great deal of wine here for the money. Produced from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre.
Ultreia, Saint Jacques, Bierzo, Raúl Pérez, 2022
This is one of Spain’s most exciting entry-level wines. Named after the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage (aka Chemin de Saint Jacques) which passes through the Bierzo region. Made from predominantly Mencia, this has a lovely juicy floral quality – ripe and perfectly balanced, it’s great with red meat or just enjoyed on its own…
Walter Scott, La Combe Verte, Pinot Noir, 2021
Offering up lush fruit but also a crisp structure, this is a Pinot that shows off the wonderful balance of the 2021 vintage very well. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in barrique for 11 months, of which 25% was new. 15% whole cluster was used for fermentation.
Pinot Noir, Ridge, Hemel en Aarde, Storm Wines, 2022
Darker and more powerful in profile but with real aromatic lift, Ridge offers a classy mix of forest fruits and fresh plums delivered with higher, crisper acidity. The highest site in the range at 330m in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, the Ridge Pinot benefits from a cool south easterly wind. Its easterly exposition means a longer hang time and a tighter, mineral feel.
Justerini & Brooks, 250th Anniversary Cuvée, Champagne, Extra Dry, NV
Produced for us by a proper family operation in the Aube, from pure Pinot Noir, it is an intentional nod to our love for, and long history with Burgundy. A hugely satisfying glass of Champagne, it revels in lip-smacking golden fruit and bright red berries with a toasty, biscuity bite that adds a very grown-up level of satisfaction.
Sancerre, Lucien Crochet, 2023
A bright, characterful Sancerre with aromas of lime, white blossom and white stone fruits. The palate is crisp yet supple, with gentle fleshiness neatly wrapped in a soft, rounded texture, whilst the chalky soils lend a delicate mineral edge that carries through to the long, mouthwatering finish.
Riesling, QbA, Screwcap, Fritz Haag, 2023
One of our bestselling Rieslings, Haag’s Estate Feinherb is ever dependable. Lip-smacking and lively, it never disappoints. Such a good Mosel estate Riesling; one that displays more than a little of the top wines’ character: fruity, delicate, animated and very easy to drink.
Chablis, Beauroy, 1er Cru, Laurent Tribut, 2023
Brimming with salty citrus notes, then Mirabelle and a touch of spice, moderate body and a cool nutty finish. The white clays of Beauroy, which are dotted with tiny shells, tend to provide a sense of richness compared to the rest of the Tribut range. Winemaking at this source of traditionally styled Chablis involves six months in tank and six in old barriques.
Bourgogne, Blanc, La Tufera, Etienne Sauzet, 2022
A classy Bourgogne that is expressive and crisp in attack. A certain mineral dimension at the core, white fleshed fruits, fine structure and with notable dry extract. Conference pears on the finish. There’s intensity here and a long finish. An elegant Bourgogne that emanates from three parcels in the Puligny-Montrachet commune.
Chenin Blanc, David & Nadia, Swartland, 2023
Bright citrus, golden hued with a tight fine line of electric vitality and startling clear acidity, cutting through a gentle sun kissed texture and expression. The 2023 finishes on white fruits and flowers with a smart mineral grip. A fantastic, old vine Chenin.
