Domaine Cros de la Mure
Châteauneuf du Pape, Le Bois Pointu, 2007
justerini & brooks tasting note
The sandy soils that half of these vines are planted on really come through strongly, lending exquisite finesse and poise to the wine. This is not an old-fashioned, bruising Châteauneuf, rather a very polished classic. A blend of 90% Grenache, from two parcels of vines, one in Bedarrides and one in the Nalys sector, that range from between 40 to 80 years old, ¹/³ of which was destalked. Beautifully bright, clear, red/purple in colour, super refi ned, seamless flavours of damson, Victoria plum and griotte cherry, touches of fruit liqueur, long, graceful and moreish to the finish.
