Châteauneuf du Pape, Pure, 2021
Fuller, sweeter, but also brighter in colour, with a plush core of dark cherries, strawberry and cocoa. Complex garriguey, graphite-laced tannins and a long shimmering finish. Barroche's legendary 100% Grenache cuvée comes from a plot of 100 year old vines planted on the sandy soils at the junction of the Rayas, Grand Pierre and Pointu sectors, found on the way to Courthezon from Châteauneuf. The wine is fermented gently and aged in unobtrusive large old oak foudres. Only 4,000 bottles are made.
critic reviews
Showing the potential to be at the same level as the 2020 vintage, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pure is a distinctively refined version of this cuvée. Coming in at 15% alcohol, precise aromas of rose petal, blood orange, redcurrant, raspberry, strawberry, licorice, dried herbs and a pinch of white pepper waft from the glass. The velvety tannins play a crucial role in shaping a seamless mouthfeel, while the elegant finish lingers on with great persistence. Only 5,000 bottles produced.
