Châteauneuf du Pape, Reserve August Favier, 2015
A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Cinsault from fifty year old vines from which Isabel Ferrando makes less than 2000 cases a year. The vines are in the estate’s original and historic Quartier des Serres sector. Half of the wine is aged in concrete tank and half in large used oak hogsheads, for 18 months. Intense flavours, a wine of structure verve and energy. Bags of personality, hedgerow fruits, stone, herbs and garrigue, brambly mineral-licked fruit with touches of plum liqueur.
critic reviews
Full ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented blackberry and boysenberry aromas are complemented by hints of incense, licorice and pungent flowers. Seamless and impressively concentrated, offering alluringly sweet dark berry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors sharpened by a jolt of peppery spices. Rich yet energetic in style, finishing with excellent clarity and fine-grained tannins that sneak in late.
