Jean Paul Versino
Châteauneuf du Pape, 2013
justerini & brooks tasting note
The result of a late harvest, from 1st to 22nd October and to date Verino's smallest ever crop. Quantities are half the estate's average production. In percentage terms the blend is a fairly typical one of 70% Grenache 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, however as no Cuvee Felix was made significantly more old vines fruit was used for this blend than usual. Noticecably fresh and open-knit but with sufficient, if not huge , density. In fact this works for its pretty fruit, floral character and gentle complexity, notes of wild berries, hedgerow fruit,, victoria plum, sap and herb. Beautifully weighted, complete and bright through to the finish.
