Ermitage, Blanc, L'Orée, 2017
Aromatically a little subdued at present but with deep stone and tropical fruit mustering up notes of Sharon fruit, melon and guava with savoury spices and salted hazelnuts. Rich and powerful but also pithy; high levels of dry extract, and consequently the potential to age for longer than other similarly styled dry and warm vintages, according to Michel Chapoutier. Imbued with a concentration and richness of fruit that will need time to unfurl. L’Oree pairs beautifully with spicy and savoury foods. Cropped at 32 HL/HA from a single parcel on the eastern side of the hill called “Les Murets”. 100% Marsanne.
critic reviews
Pronounced beeswax, dried camomile, straw, dried honeysuckle and lemon peel aromas introduce the complex 2017 Ermitage Blanc De L'Orée. On the palate, it reveals a medium to full-bodied frame that feels effortless and invigorating, carried by a fine thread of acidity. Layers of dried linden blossom and hay emerge, adding depth and nuance as the wine opens. Crisp and impeccably balanced, the 2017 unfolds with focus and precision, drawing out a long, refined finish that underscores its compelling charm.
