M.Chapoutier
Ermitage, L'Ermite, Blanc, 2017
justerini & brooks tasting note
L’Ermite comprises Chapoutier’s oldest Marsanne vines of up to 100 years old from a tiny 0.5HA parcel. Complex, ripe and clear with a glossy sheen and spicy-minerals underlying. White peaches, honey, sweet red apples and honeysuckle lend density and richness with a thread of saline acidity and taut rocky spices that support and shape the wine. 2017 L’Ermite Blanc is a wine of structure and concentration that will require patience. Its concentration defines the wine today but all the complex elements are in reserve and this will prove to be a very fine wine in five to ten years’ time.
