Châteauneuf du Pape, Clos des Papes, 2000
A typically voluptuous, beautifully rounded and despite a surprisingly unnoticeable 14.5% of alcohol, very elegant Clos des Papes. This is rich and infused with ripe, sweet fruit flavours of sloe, cassis, mure sauvage and black cherry, touches of mineral, wild herb and chocolate,a pure juicy fruit freshness gives the finish lift and focus, whilst the silken, close-knit tannins will provide the structure and support for a good long life.
critic reviews
Very good deep red-ruby. Roasted plum and black fruit aromas, with notes of violet, dark chocolate, smoke and game. Fat, lush and superripe; shows more of a roasted character than the 2001, but also boasts solid acidity. A huge, full-blown wine with exotic notes of roasted herbs. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and excellent length.
