Coudoulet de Beaucastel, Rouge, 2014
A fruity well constructed wine that contains, like Beaucastel, a high proportion of Mourvedre giving the wine structure freshness and mouthfeel. Notes of loganberry, bramble blueberry and touches of pepper. Hearty, spicy and immediately pleasurable. A blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 2O% each of Syrah and old vine Cinsault. Hand-picked and organically grown from practically the same terroir as Beaucastel with slightly higher yields of 35 hl/ha.
critic reviews
Bright violet. Intense dark berry and cherry compote aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice and candied flowers. Palate-caressing black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors pick up peppery spice and lavender qualities on the back half. Rich yet lively, showing no excess fat. The juicy, focused finish is given shape by silky, harmonious tannins and leaves behind a gently sweet dark berry note.
