Côte Rôtie, La Viaillère, 2016
A small parcel of 90 year old vines just under Grandes Places that was last made as a separate cuvée but Rostaing in 1995. Thanks to the quality and quantity of 2016 they have finally been able to make it again. Intense, floral dark and red berry flavours, notes of bramble, raspberry, violet and black cherry. Perfumed but structured, serious fresh and chiselled but with a certain style and class that gets more obvious the longer it is open. An exciting and welcome return!
critic reviews
Inky ruby. Intensely perfumed dark berry, cherry compote, incense and floral aromas are sharpened by suggestions of smoky minerals and peppery spices. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering impressively concentrated bitter cherry, blueberry and violet pastille flavors that show outstanding clarity and mineral lift. Densely packed but energetic as well, showing superb closing thrust, building tannins and powerful, mineral-driven persistence.
