Bienenberg, Spätburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2023
Layred and spicy, the Bienenberg offers an intense melange of red and dark fruits, grated cocoa and earth. There is a breadth of fruit with the tannic and mineral impact of limestone, deep and fizzing, with supporting notes of toast and herbs. There is enormous potential here, a great GG. Bienenberg is the home vineyard of the estate planted on a mix of loess and yellow limestone. . Aged for around 18 months in 30% new French oak barrique.
critic reviews
The 2023 Bienenberg Malterdingen Spatburgunder GG is sweet and fragrant on the charming nose that shows concentrated red fruit with crunchy tannin aromas reminiscent of sandalwood and crushed salt. Full-bodied, elegant and fresh on the palate, with very fine tannins intermingled with salt and salinity, this is a generous but dense and uplifted or almost weightless Pinot with remarkable finesse but also tension, lots of salt and fine grip but also juice. The finish is long and promising on this red from terraces. This 2023 wine includes the Wildenstein plot that was not produced in 2023. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2025.
