Malterdinger, Spätburgunder, Alte Reben, 2023
More concentrated and nervier compared to the Malterdinger, the Alte Reben offers showy rich red and brambly fruits, dark cherries and hints of cocoa. Really gorgeous and radiant. It comes from different parts of the Bienenberg up to 20-65 years old. The plant material is 60% Burgundian clones and 40% German. Aged for around 18 months in 30% new French oak barrique.
critic reviews
The 2023 Malterdingen Spatburgunder Alte Reben is from 50- to 70-year-old vines sourced from seven parcels that are always harvested at the end due to their genetics. Pure deep and elegant on the fragrant nose that is provided with aromas of blackcurrant, red cherries and a hint of oak, dry leaves and toast, this is a medium- to full-bodied, elegant, round, juicy and mouth-filling, elegant Pinot with fine yet spicy tannins that intermingle with the saline and refreshing finish. This balanced and refreshing old-vine Pinot, which is based on entirely destemmed grapes, has good intensity, grip and length, with almost peppery notes. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2025.
