    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

This offers up a heady mix of violet and silky suave red and dark berries, eminently juicy, fresh and drinkable with some lovely rounding spice and nice mature tannins on the finish. This cuvee is made using all Grand Cru Bienenberg fruit, predominantly from French clones with a small proportion of German Spatburgunder clones. It is brimming with beautifully judged fruits, nervy, yet fully ripe tannins and acidities, and a sense of verve and transparency that makes it incredibly exciting.

From 22-year-old vines on loess and shell limestone soils, the cherry colored 2014 Malterdinger Spatburgunder trocken opens with a very clear, bright and spicy bouquet of wild red berries, cherries and beautiful earthy flavors. Medium to full-bodied, fruit-intense and vital on the palate, this is a very elegant, aromatic and silky textured Pinot in perfect balance. The acidity is remarkably fine and the finish, though still a very little bit reductive, is pure, dry, fresh and beautifully aromatic. This is an impressive village wine from Baden's Breisgau subregion. There is just a hint of toast and mocha flavors in the aftertaste.
