Saltier and spicier than the Ritsch with touches of pomelo, anise and basil propping up a core of fine ripe lemons. A firmer acidity and long, shimmering rocky finish, the Herrenberg GG 2023 from Loewen was a standout dry wine for us this year. The GG comes from the highest, steepest, stoniest part of the vineyard where the roots are closest to the bedrock. Planted in 1902, this too is the product of ungrafted vines, but on red slate. Fermented and aged in traditional fuder barrels.
