Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Spätlese, 2005
This is from a new parcel in the Juffer vineyard recently purchased by Wilhelm Haag. It is a vineyard with a very high slate percentage in its soils, producing classically styled Mosel wines. Wonderfully fragrant aromas precede a fine, spritzy palate packed with juicy citrus and peach fruit, undertones of smokey slate and minerals.
critic reviews
Pale green-tinged yellow.Lovely floral, passion fruit and clove aromas. Delicately creamy peach fruit is animated by a salty minerality. Finishes quite bright, with notes of slate, nut oil and cinnamon.
A 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Spatlese A.P. #7 smells of apple, quince, and grapefruit, offers a richly fruited yet particularly juicy, clear, and almost weightless palate impression, and finishes with juicy fresh apple, grapefruit, and melon, hints of ennobled botrytis honey, and liquid slate. This fine, pure nectar should be a 20-year keeper at the least. Also recommended: 2005 Riesling ($20.00; 86). Importer: Rudi Wiest, Cellars International, Carlsbad, CA; tel. 800-596-9463
