A beautifully balanced Helden Auslese, deep red apple and earthy red slate notes balanced by a note of salt and fine citrus zest. Powerful yet very refined – an Auslese of concentration that nevertheless remains nimble.

From a special plot with old vines, picked late but healthy and aged on the full lees in an old fuder for 42 months, the 2018 Niederberg Helden GG Reserve shows a fascinating, intense and nuanced, finely flinty and more open, oxidative bouquet of crushed slate and ripe Riesling compared to the regular Helden GG. Rich and round on the palate, this is an intense, very elegant and enormously long and saline Helden with very fine tannins and a long, very intense and oh-so-fine and saline finish. What a gorgeous new wine for Schloss Lieser! Tasted as a sample in July 2022.
