Maximin Grünhauser, Herrenberg, Riesling, Spätlese, 2023
The Herrenberg Spätlese initially has a sweeter-styled attack than the other two Spätlesen, despite the analysis proving that they are all bottled at the same residual. This will delight lovers like us of measured, fully ripe fruits which veer toward mirabelle, white strawberry, lemon curd, wild herbs and flowers. A lovely wine.
critic reviews
The 2023 Maximin Grunhaus Herrenberg Spatlese is precise, fresh and saline on the intense and slightly reductive nose that reveals discreet orange aromas. Lush and savory on the palate, this is a generous, round and saline, remarkably pure and mineral Riesling Spatlese that tastes almost dry or at least dry-ish. It is a complex and stimulating Riesling with great precision, grip and tension. It is very young but highly attractive. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026.
The 2023 Riesling Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg Spätlese still shows slight reduction on the nose. Mouth-watering tangy sweetness immediately strikes the palate, completely compact and bullet-like in its beautiful impact. It travels with agility, bordered by zest. The finish has the texture of peach flesh and drips with juiciness to the end.
