Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2024
Floral and powdery with wispy, airy fruits and citrus – on the elegant mineral side with almost no overt fruit in 2024. It drinks like a mountain stream. Tense and stony; the definition of a mineral-driven Riesling! Fruit for the GG comes from the oldest part of the Rausch in its lower reaches abutting the village where the ungrafted vines reach a remarkable 140 years old. Just one fuder barrel was produced.
critic reviews
The 2024 Rausch GG shows a floral, spring-like nose with ripe, dense, partly raisin-like fruit (eventually with some Botrytis?). It is almost bold. Juicy, sweetish and mouthfilling, this is a racy, slightly sharp and salty Rausch with lemon aromas on the finish. It needs time. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewachs in Wiesbaden, August 2025.
The 2024 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Grosses Gewächs is from the lowest reaches of the site, adjoining the town, from one ancient parcel of ungrafted, 140-year-old vines. This was picked on the first day of harvest, as these grapes were perfect. Its exquisite nose presents tangerine peel mixed with Cox Orange Pippin apples. The palate has a glorious tartness, stoniness, salty slate, dense and lip-smacking substance, but no fat at all. What a wonderful GG, laser-sharp, without a single frill and so pure. Simply lovely and bone-dry with 8.5 g/L of perfectly buffered acidity. (Bone-dry)
