Frühlingsplätzchen, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2024

justerini & brooks tasting note

A chiselled, fine boned Frühlingsplätzchen; quite shy initially, high in citric intensity and rapier-like acidity. Opens to whiter fruits and pale, taut flavours framed by stony extract, slate and salts. Fine bone China. The meticulous quality selection in 2024 equates to 50-60% of a normal crop. Produced from 35-year-old vines, fermented naturally and raised in traditional German casks. A red slate, loam and gravel dominated site facing southwest to southeast.

The 2024 Fruhlingsplatzchen GG opens on the nose with bright, clearly defined fruit and fine reduction as well as stony notes and comes across as pleasantly playful. On the palate, it is juicy, dense and salty, with a serious structure, yet still appears lean and currently even somewhat sharp. It is crystalline and salty, still very young but already long-lasting on the finish. It needs time in the bottle. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewachs in Wiesbaden, August 2025.

The 2024 Riesling Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Grosses Gewächs was grown on red Permian stone. It seduces on the nose with a floral, citric charm that wraps itself around stoniness. Underneath that, white peach shimmers. The palate has a beautiful, svelte but creamy core, uniting lemon and aloe vera with real zestiness. This forms a gorgeous contrast that comes together beautifully and with much elegance. (Bone-dry)
