Riesling, vom Rotliegenden, Trocken, 2021
Obviously ferric notes on the nose, this wine positively breathes the air of iron and salt with tight, ripe citrus playing second fiddle. An immense soil profile. This wine comes from the first pick across the great Kastanienbusch site; thus, all of the grapes in this are technically eligible for GG status.
critic reviews
The 2021 Birkweiler Vom Rotliegenden Riesling trocken offers a deep, intense and iron-scented bouquet of ripe and elegant fruit intermingled with purely mineral and herbal notes. In fact, this is a downgraded Kastanienbusch that didn't add a plus to the GG blend. Round and silky on the very elegant and balanced palate, this is a quiet-flowing Riesling with fine and ripe acidity and a long, intense and textured finish with very delicate salinity on the aftertaste. It's a fascinating dry Riesling from Siebeldingen. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2022.
